hard at work or...

NH State Parks and Cannon Mtn. has finalized its land swap with the National Forest to expand skiing to Mittersill, which has officially been closed since 1982, but has hosted back-country daring-do ever since. Somebody had to go photograph it. Most skiers cross from Cannon up top and ski right to end up back at Cannon. The adventurous head left like two people did earlier than I did around noon on Friday. My tracks through the boot-deep powder are the sloppy ones.

CSM

Since I am still new to snow I decided to try something new and different, a long-distance ski event. So, cajoled into skiing in the Canadian Ski marathon in Quebec I reluctantly went. the second day was my favorite day of nordic skiing ever--great people, inspiring views, sunny hillsides and feeling good about my skills despite being passed by everyone and their overnight backpacks.

I will be back. And next time, I'll train.

Governor Dudley

The governor appointed a new Senator (center) since the current one wants to leave for a Cabinet job nobody can quite define. Former Gov. Joseph Dudley (1686-1687, 1702-1716) looked on. Fantastic wig.

According to wikipedia, colonists so disliked Gov. Dudley a treatise was published in London in 1708 entitled "The Deplorable State of New England by reason of a Covetous and Treacherous Governor and Pusillanimous Counsellors."
