New Year's where?

I think of annual events as milestones marking not just time but geography. Birthdays, Independence Days, and New Year's Eves all seem to vary the most.

2006-7 Gainesville, Fla.
2005 Birmingham, Ala., “The Arena”
2004 New Orleans, La.
2003 Monroe, Mich.
2002 Annapolis, Md.
2001 Western Pennsylvania, leaving Niagara Falls, NY as fast as I could
2000 Washington, DC hanging with the Politics and Prose crowd
1999-2000 Old Rag Mountain, Virginia
1998 Hilton Head, South Carolina
1997 Washington, DC/Chevy Chase, Md.
1996 Birmingham, Ala., wanting to be in Whitehall, Va.
1995 On a Greyhound bus from Atlanta to Birmingham, Ala.

good copy

Every week the New Yorker magazine runs a poorly edited brief from the country's smaller publications. They are goofs, like Jay Leno's weekly bit. This week they ran a community brief as it appeared in the Valley News.

"A four week program sponsored by the Dartmouth XC Center designed for the X-C or alpine skier that wants to try Backcountry Skiing...Telemark skis, boots and poles are provided. Cast is $85.00."

Yes, I am geek enough to find that funny.

new life

New Life for my computerized world, at least. After my computer fritzed shortly after making this image I decided to start over on a whole new machine. After spending the morning copying all of my goodies from one machine to the one I'm using now, things are starting to crank.

a bomb of a holiday

Too much grim stuff. A prank bomb threat closes the Mall early on Xmas Eve, a tornado rips through the next town over early Christmas morning, I get a tour of a house where two people died in house fire, and I said disparaging things about James Brown hours before he dies.

At least I got a laugh out of the 'bomb threat.'

shooting while driving

leaving Opie's place either very early or the sun doesn't rise on time up there.

poorly toned stand-alones

Two shots from today, a day full of feature hunting shot at 1600 ISO. I stoped in for fast food chicken (without changing my setting from a dark gym) and saw this little drama. A panhandler asked for change before a manger threw him out. "He's in here everyday," she said. The woman in green ran out and gave him a buck.

From a press release I went to shoot a neighborhood out caroling. Shorts for Xmas in Florida (it was 80 today) and the group of fifty stopped to sing at the tennis courts. My flash keeps fizzing out, so it's not up to newsprint quality.

aurora

The Northern Lights from Wixom Lake, Midland County/Gladwin County, Michigan. Photo monkeys are behind me painting with light.

How much do you tone what you don't see until you develop the film? The pulses arer gone and a few streaks, but the colors are there. but, how much do pop them and when is it too much?
